Andy Langdown BSc MB ChB FRCS (Tr & Orth)

Andy Langdown is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Portsmouth, working at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Spire Portsmouth Hospital and Nuffield Health Chichester Hospital. His specialist area of interest is arthroscopic surgery of the hip and knee – including the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), knee ligament reconstruction and general knee arthroscopic surgery. He has a broad experience of hip and knee replacement surgery with a particular interest in treating younger patients. He currently performs more arthroscopic hip procedures than anyone else on the South Coast of England, having established a Young Adult Hip Service at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and at the Nuffield Health Chichester Hospital.

In addition Andy Langdown is an accomplished trauma surgeon, having spent time as a consultant on the specialist regional trauma service in Oxford and having been a trauma surgeon for 14 years in Portsmouth.

Working with several world-renowned orthopaedic surgeons during his specialist training in Oxford and Sydney Australia, Andy Langdown is well acquainted with all aspects of hip and knee surgery and has substantial experience in the use of modern implants and techniques such as minimal access and computer assisted surgery.

In addition to a busy clinical practice Andy Langdown maintains an active interest in medical education, training and research. He is a member of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA), a member of the Smith & Nephew National Advisory Panel for Hip Surgery and a member of faculty for the Wessex Orthopaedic Specialist Registrar Examination Revision Course. He has presented at many national and international meetings and has published articles in many of the leading orthopaedic journals.
